Statement of Need/Program Overview
This program series comprises of two 1-day meetings, first in San Antonio, TX on Friday July 18, 2008, and the second in Denver, CO on Saturday July 19, 2008. This program is designed to provide updates with an integration of important clinical data presented at the major 2008 annual conferences in oncology. This series provides update on new treatment modalities in the management of thoracic, breast, gastrointestinal, prostate/renal cancers, sarcoma/GIST, and hematological malignancies with key data on novel therapeutic agents. This interactive meeting will include didactic sessions, panel and interactive discussions from known thought leaders who will offer their recommendations about the clinical challenges that practicing physicians face in their daily practice.
Target Audience
These symposia are directed toward medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists; hematologists; and fellows practicing in the community or academic institutions. Nurses, physicians’ assistants, pharmacists, PhDs and other individuals interested in the treatment of cancer are also invited to attend.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, you should be able to:
- Review recent clinical data regarding the use of agents targeting the EGFR and/or VEGF pathways in the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer, as well as potential patient selection criteria
- Review novel cytotoxic agents, drugs targeting the HER1, HER2 and VEGF pathways, and their integration into current adjuvant or metastatic treatment regimens for breast cancer
- Explain the impact of EGFR and/or VEGF inhibition in combination with different chemotherapeutic regimens for previously untreated or treated metastatic colorectal cancer
- Outline treatment options for GI cancers, such as hepatic, esophageal, gastric and pancreatic cancers
- Indicate recent treatment options for leukemia, and aggressive and indolent non-Hodgkins lymphoma
- Define the management strategies of newly diagnosed and relapsed multiple myeloma
- Describe the treatment options for the treatment of prostate and renal cell carcinoma
- Review novel targets that can potentially be used for patient selection and for the development of new drugs
