This symposium is directed primarily to medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pharmacists, researchers and registered oncology nurses interested in new developments for treatment of lung cancer. No specific skill or knowledge other than a basic training in oncology is required for successful participation in this activity. Fellows, nurses are also invited to attend.
Statement of Need/Program Overview
Recent advances in lung cancer is intended to provide comprehensive updates on biology, diagnosis, and management of lung cancer. Paradigm shift in the treatment options for nonsmall-cell lung cancer and small-cell lung cancer will be discussed. This meeting will facilitate interaction among oncologists and researchers interested in development of novel therapeutics for treatment of lung cancer. This symposium will present data of most promising emerging agents currently in development for the treatment of lung cancer. The format will include didactic lectures from known thought leaders, question and answer session, and ample opportunity for participant interaction with faculty. In-depth discussion of antiangiogenic agents, inhibitors of EGFR pathways, and drugs that target multiple signaling pathways will be given significant focus. The role of proteasome inhibitors, HDAC inhibitors and novel taxanes in the treatment of lung cancer will be discussed. Emerging data from ongoing clinical research will be presented.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
Define the current status of targeted therapy and radiation therapy in the treatment of localized and advance lung cancer
-
Outline the clinical data supporting the use of EGFR and VEGFR inhibitors including the safety profile and efficacy in the treatment of lung cancer
-
Describe novel therapeutic agents such as proteasome inhibitors, HGAC inhibitors and novel taxanes that potentially improve upon standard chemotherapeutics
-
Specify the impact of multi-targeted kinase inhibitors in the management of lung cancer
-
Explain the ERCC and RRMI expression on treatment selection of patients with lung cancer
-
Describe the role of vaccines for lung cancer
