Target Audience
This symposium is directed primarily to medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pharmacists, and registered oncology nurses interested in new developments for treatment of lung cancer and head & neck cancer. No specific skill or knowledge other than a basic training in oncology is required for successful participation in this activity. Fellows are also invited to attend.
Statement of Need/Program Overview
This program is intended to facilitate interaction among oncologists and nurses interested in development of novel therapeutics for treatment of lung cancer and head & neck cancer. In addition to multimodality therapy, adjuvant therapy, this symposium will present data of most promising emerging agents currently in development for the treatment of lung cancer and head & neck cancer. There will be in-depth discussion of both antiangiogenic agents and inhibitors of EGFR pathways. Drugs that target multiple signaling pathways will also be given significant focus.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Describe the current status of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and state-of-the-art therapies of lung cancer
- Define the current status of multimodality therapy in the treatment of localized and advance lung cancer
- Outline the clinical data supporting the optimal use of EGFR inhibitors in the treatment of lung cancer
- Identify agents that target angiogenesis, including the safety profile and efficacy
- Specify the impact of current strategies in the treatment of head & neck cancer
- Identify the role of maintenance therapy in the lung cancer
- Describe novel therapeutic agents that potentially improve upon standard chemotherapeutics
